Educational Information Sessions

These sessions, organized by representatives from colleges, universities and professional schools give you the opportunity to find out information on programs related to additional education options. The Student Success Centre helps facilitate the campus visits and posts information as provided by the program; however, room changes, registration details and questions regarding the program requirements should be directed to the representatives.

Educational Information Sessions are offered throughout the year. Please consult OSCARplus for dates and upcoming sessions.

Continuing Education Fair

The Continuing Education Fair is an annual event that connects McMaster students with representatives from educational programs across Canada and abroad.

The 2011 Continuing Education Fair will be taking place on Monday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 25 in the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC) Atrium.   The fair begins at 10:30am and wraps up at 2:30pm each day.

On October 24, you will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from: Education, Health-Studies, MBA and Accounting

October 25 will include representatives from: Graduate Studies, Law, College Programs and Professional School Services

There will be a list of all attending programs available on OSCARplus in early October. Consult the list before attending the Fair to ensure that you do not miss the date selected by the school representative you wish to meet.

Teacher's College Information Sessions

Thinking about a career in teaching? In October, we welcome representatives from teacher education programs across Ontario and abroad to meet with McMaster students and discuss admissions requirements, accepted teachable areas, overseas certification and application deadlines.

A schedule of attending representatives, dates and locations will be available in early Fall. Check OSCARplus or the Student Success online calendar for details.

Workshops

Preparing Your Presentation: Getting Ready for Medical School Interviews

This presentation is geared to help you understand the process of preparing for your medical school interview in order to create a positive, unique and lasting impression with your interviewers. Learn ways to effectively communicate your experiences and prepare your individual strategy for the interview.

Medical School Admissions Workshop

This presentation will provide an introduction to the admission requirements of medical schools in Ontario. Familiarize yourself with what to expect throughout the process of preparing to submit a competitive application.

Personal Statement Workshop

The process of admissions for professional and graduate programs is highly competitive. Test scores, academic transcripts and other materials will probably be required. You will be asked to submit a personal essay or "personal statement".

The application package will represent who "you" are to people whom you will most likely not know.

  • The personal statement will be a very important way for committee members to get to know why you are an acceptable candidate for their program.
  • Professional and graduate schools make important selection decisions that are partly based on what you say in your personal statement
  • Make sure that what you submit gives a clear picture of who you are as an applicant

Workshop offerings will be posted on OSCARplus and the Student Success online calendar by the end of summer. Check back for details and dates.
