With the spring 2011 federal elections behind us, it is time to look forward to subsequent elections and hold politicians to the promises made during this past elections campaign. In 2015, it is expected we will be going to the polls twice in one month. The soonest possible date for our next provincial election is October 1, 2015 and the next federal election is planned for October 19, 2015. Voting on all levels of government is an important step to getting your opinion and voice out there. In previous elections, student apathy has been a concern and with this year’s push for students to head to the polls (vote mobs etc.), the next elections will hopefully have even higher student turnout! Be sure to check out some of the following sections for more voting information.
MunicipalMunicipal Government has responsibility for many portfolios that directly impact students: water, sewage, waste collection, public transit, emergency services, bylaw enforcement and economic development. During a municipal election, voters vote for both a local representative (Councillor) and a leader (Mayor).
