The LEADERSHIP EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT series of workshops are designed to help students become more successful in their leadership roles on-campus. Whether you are a Student Success Leader, a Club/Society Executive or a student looking to develop leadership skills; these workshops will build your confidence and competence!

Budgeting Like a Boss

Knowing how to successfully budget is the yardstick that is indicative of any organization's performance. Whether it is a large scale budgeting (i.e. a yearly budget) or a small scale plan (i.e. an event), this workshop will get you started.

During this 1-hour session, you will learn what steps you need to take to create an efficient budget, what you should look for when making the budget outline, what details to focus on to make your budget unique and more effective that others as well as how you can save money without compromising your vision and style. Students will leave with an information package regarding budgeting, including what-to-do's when budgeting, a list of helpful tips to follow and a sample operating budget that includes an event.

Getting the Word Out: Promotion and Marketing

This workshop will teach students effective ways of promoting their events and clubs and organizations, create effective posters, and learn about key marketing concepts which will be used in planning their promotions. Upon completing this workshop, students will be able to properly plan, organize, and market their clubs, organizations, and events to the student body.

So You Think You Can Plan

Have you ever struggled with where to begin when planning an event? Or reflected back on one and thought "that could have been better"? This workshop will guide students in planning a successful event for their student organization, no matter how big or how small. It will go through the foundations of event planning: Conception, Preparation, Implementation and Evaluation.

In this workshop, you will learn how to plan an event that is enjoyable, informative, and meets your goals. You will learn about basic administration and safety requirements involved in planning an event at McMaster University. You will learn about helpful resources you may need when planning an event and how to evaluate your events and obtain feedback from attendees. Whether you have just been thrust into a new position in a club or you want to enhance what you already know about event planning, this workshop will have something for you.

Passing the Torch: Succession Planning and Transition

The Succession and Transition Planning Workshop is useful for those looking to acquire skills regarding the creation of appropriate transition material for individuals who will one day fill their current roles. This workshop is also for those who have not been provided adequate transition material and will not only help in the development of methods to acquire information needed to be successful in the role but also tools needed to start developing transitional material from day one.

Mastering the Art of Meetings

Have you ever found yourself in situations where you have a group of highly motivated individuals with a common goal but cannot seem to find a good place to start? Or perhaps the group has much to offer but little time for decisive action?

Getting groups of people together is a difficult task, but to have the group committed to attending regular productive meetings is a challenge even for the most charismatic leaders! In this workshop, we will focus on the foundations of a good meeting by highlighting key elements in preparation and facilitation. This workshop will give you tips, frameworks, samples and practical experiences to help you and your team master the art of meetings.
