Recruitment EventsWhether you are in your final year or exploring your career options, recruitment events are the best way to connect with employment opportunities and meet recruiters. The Student Success Centre offers career and employment events throughout the year. Take a look at what we have going on in 2011-2012 and then come in to see us so that we can help prepare you with the tools are resources you need to succeed.
Fall Career FairThe largest career event at McMaster University, Career Fair 2011 offers a forum for you to meet face-to-face with employers and make career connections. The 2011 fair will be taking place on Thursday, September 22 at the David Braley Athletic Centre between 10am-3pm. Attending career fairs give you an opportunity to build your network, apply for career positions and explore opportunities. Organizations attending have made a conscious decision to attend and are there to specifically meet McMaster students. Don’t let your friends tell you about the recruiters they met the day after the event - make sure you are there to find out for yourself and explore the many career paths and opportunities available. Career Fair Networking Reception!If you want to know more about a particular company, ask detailed questions, learn about career paths and ultimately build connections to help you land a great job after graduation - attend the Career Fair Networking Reception! Following the 2011 Career Fair, graduating year students can purchase tickets for only $10.00 and have one-on-one time with recruiters from major companies across Canada. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning Monday, September 12 from the Student Succes Centre (cash only). Note: A limited number of tickets will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Spring/Summer Employment FairThe Who's Hiring Spring/Summer Employment Fair, will be taking place on Tuesday, January 24 in the MUSC Marketplace between 10:30am-2:30pm. Meet with employers looking to hire for summer, full-time, part-time, internship and volunteer positions. Leading up to the Fair, you will be able to participate in a comprehensive program of activities that will help you prepare for your full-time or summer job search. Activities include: networking opportunities with employers, job search workshops,resume reviews, special presentations and interview practice opportunities. View the Who's Hiring 2012 Event Program. Networking BreakfastsEvents such as our annual Networking Breakfasts are a great opportunity for you to network with career professionals and receive first-hand information about career information, trends in the industry as well as employment opportunities. Students who attend the Networking Breakfasts have the opportunity to spend time with each professional in attendance and gather information, ask questions and gain “real world” knowledge about various career paths within a particular industry or sector. These events are industry or sector specific and are offered during the academic term. We are excited to announce the Networking Breakfasts planned for 2011-2012:
Information SessionsCompany Information Sessions provide you with an opportunity to meet recruiters face-to-face and learn about a company’s organizational culture, recruiting process and job opportunities. These events are usually held weekday evenings and last approximately 2 hours. Employers attend these events to network with students and young alumni who are interested in their company. A listing of all Company Information Sessions taking place during the Fall and Winter terms is available on OSCARplus. Students must register for the majority of the sessions taking place and adhere to the dress code guidelines as specified by the employer and under the Student Accountability Policy. For students not in their final year, Company Information Sessions are a great place to conduct career research and gather information.
Job Finding Boot CampMcMaster’s Job Finding Boot Camp is for graduating students and new alumni who are ready to commit to a full time job search. Facilitated in a group setting and with the support of fellow job seekers and the assistance of our Career and Employment Staff you will engage in a 4 day intensive program designed to teach you the most effective means of finding work in the field in which you want to be employed.
