Mac Serve Day of Service

Mac Serve 2011: Saturday, September 24

Mac Serve: Day of Service is an annual campus-wide initiative run by the Student Success Centre that offers students the opportunity to connect with local community organizations. As a participant in the Mac Serve: Day of Service event, you will spend a half-day volunteering in groups with a community agency.

Our partner organizations include senior’s communities, environmental organizations, social service groups and youth centres. At the end of the day of service, participants engage in meaningful reflection about their experience.

 The goals of the day are:

  1. For students to learn more about the needs that exist in our local community and how they are/are not being met.
  2. For our partner organizations to receive meaningful assistance and connect with McMaster’s student body.
  3. For students to be inspired to get involved and make a difference.

You can participate as part of a team or individually. This program is also a great team builder for clubs, societies and residence communities. Registration begins in early September and takes place on a first come, first serve basis.

Team Leaders: Mac Serve Day of Service requires dozens of Team Leaders in order to run. If you have strong facilitation, problem solving and communication skills- we encourage you to apply!  View the Day of Service: Team Leader Responsibilities PDF for more information.

Mac Serve for Commuters: Mississauga

In 2010 we piloted a Mac Serve Commuter option for students not living in the Hamilton area. The program was a huge success and will be running again in 2011. This option is for students who cannot travel to McMaster to participate. Transportation to and from the Mississauga site is not provided.
