Mac Serve Global

Mac Serve: Global is an international, multi-week experience that occurs in May. It challenges participants to live in, learn about and critically evaluate issues in a host community. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their communities through service experience and reflection. Past destinations have included Nairobi, Kenya and Chira Island, Costa Rica and most recently Urubamba, Peru in partnership with Nexos Voluntarios.

Peru: Community Development

Participants will travel to Urubamba, Peru where they will work and reside with our partner, Nexos Voluntarios. Work projects vary, but often involve build/construction projects in the local community. In addition to work projects, the week contains workshops and presentations from local leaders, artisans, activists and professors.

Cost: $1650 + flight (~$950) Cost includes all aspects of the trip including: airfare, ground transportation, accommodation, meals, registration fees, facilitator fees, reflection, basic supplies and Machu Picchu.  Program fees do NOT include: mandatory travel insurance, food/snacks while in travel, extra luggage fees and souvenirs,

Number of Participants: Maximum 20, Minimum 12 (1 Team Leader)

Accommodations: While in Urubamba, students will be staying in hostel accommodations.

Meals: All meals will be provided by NeVo.

Activities: Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the local community throughout the week during social events, workshops and trips to local community groups. Experiences include visits to local farmers markets, artisan markets, local social/cultural/historic attractions as well as a visit to Machu Picchu.

The Community: Urubamba is a small town in Peru, located near the Urubamba River under the snow-capped mountain of Chicón. Located one hour from Cusco, Urubamba is the largest town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It is also located near a number of significant ruins of the Inca Empire, including Machu Picchu. Tourists often come through the town on their way to visit these sites.
